Compassion

I call upon you to draw from the depths of your being — to prove that we are a human race, to prove that our love outweighs our need to hate, that our compassion is more compelling than our need to blame.

I saw this quote from Elizabeth Taylor's acceptance speech of her Humanitarian Award Oscar in 1993 today and it immediately struck me, especially in light of what has and is happening in Japan.  The thought and act of compassion has been on my mind since Gary Haugen came to speak at our church last year about the organization he founded called International Justice Mission.  I'm putting my money where my mouth is.  It isn't feasible for me to go to the countries affected, but I can support in other ways.
