House Tour: Piano Room

I'm back to update another finished room.  Actually, the entire first floor is D O N E, and I'll be sharing the progress as soon as I can get some pictures (its pretty overcast today).

This is the room off the kitchen that accesses the backyard.
Previously it had carpet in the room, which we knew would not work with little kid and dog feet going in and out.

Then it went to this during construction and in the process of moving in.

We lived without a floor in here for months.  Finally this fall we had wood floors put in, and while we were at it we had the rest of the hardwood floors on the rest of the first floor stripped and refinished so that all the stain would match.

And here is the room now:

The piano was purchased by my parents 25 (?) years ago when I was learning to play.  It is actually over 100 years old and was manufactured in Chicago by the Smith & Barnes Piano Company (incorporated in 1891 and located on Clybourn Street).  When they decided to move I claimed the piano and am happy to have it in my home now.

The room looks beautiful Kate. The piano is soooo happy that you have given it a new home with its "family". I find it particularly satisfying that it finds itself once again in Chicago. It's a beauty!
